Are You A Landlord? Give Us A Call

On July 1, 2019, Healthy Homes Standards passed into law in New Zealand’s parliament. Since then, there’s been quite a bit of confusion about what a landlord’s obligations will be under this law, and when they have to be met. Because we expect to supply and install a lot of heat pumps to help Auckland landlords meet their responsibilities, we’ve taken a close interest in Healthy Homes Standards. We’re happy to give you what advice we can, as well as supply and install any Mitsubishi, Daikin or Panasonic heat pump you might require.

In the meantime, here is a brief timeline to help you stay on track with the upcoming deadlines for Healthy Homes Standards.

  • All private rentals must comply within 90 days of any new or renewed tenancy after 1 July 2021, with all private rentals complying by 1 July 2024.
  • All boarding houses must comply by 1 July 2021.
  • All houses rented by Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply by 1 July 2023.

Healthy Homes Standards will introduce specific and minimum standards for heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping in rental properties. As a landlord, you obviously want to do the right thing by your tenants but you might also feel overwhelmed at everything you have to do to bring your rental accommodation up to compliant standards. If you’ve read the new law, it becomes pretty apparent that heat pumps appeal as the easiest option for you if you need to boost the heating in your rental property.

Given the exceptional energy-efficiency and convenience of modern heat pumps, your tenants will be delighted if you choose to install one. You won’t be the only landlord in Auckland who opts to do so. We expect demand for our services to be very high, and that is why we encourage you to get everything in place to beat the last-minute rush and meet the government’s strict deadlines.

So don’t delay. Contact us as soon as possible for a free quote on supplying and installing a new  Panasonic, Mitsubishi or Daikin heat pump, or for some advice. We’re here to help you and your tenants.
